NEWSLETTER: 2001-2002

Welcome to the ninth edition of the Annual Newsletter of the Harvard Business School Alumni Association of Israel. For the past nine years, this newsletter has strived to strengthen the ties between HBS and the members of the Harvard Business School Alumni Association of Israel (HBSAAI). This year we are trying to do so by highlighting the involvement and experiences of the Israeli HBS community in the campus.

This year has been difficult for all of us. The current turmoil in the Middle East did not escape the HBS campus and almost all the articles in this newsletter touch the subject in one way or another.  First, we feature the HBS Israel trek article by Meg Stern and Daniel Rethazy  who were among the few HBSers that went on the trek in spite of tough circumstances. Due to the situation we joined forces, for the first time, with other business schools (Columbia, Wharton, NYU) to reach a critical mass of students.  This was a great success and we encourage future organizers of the Israeli trek to do the same.  David-Alexandre Gros, the HBS Jewish Student Association co-president, writes a report on the club’s activities in the past year. Margot Rabinowitz Eiran presents her perspective on the events of 9/11 and the situation in Israel.  Isaac Ciechanover writes on pursuing an MBA at HBS form a medical doctor's perspective.  In the opinion section of this newsletter, we are  challenging the HBSAAI in terms of exposing HBS to Israeli prospective students. Lastly, we wish to bring to your attention that after last year’s inauguration of the luxurious Spangler building, a new classroom building was inaugurated in the HBS campus – the Hawes Hall building.

It is our hope that you will enjoy this issue. We are also very proud to announce next year’s editors Gady Lachman, Eytan Pisetzky, Ziv Bursztyn, Nitzan Shaer and Itamar Kendel.  We wish them good luck and an exciting second year at HBS.

Your editors,
