Background
|
| During
the joint annual Gala Dinner of the HBSAAI/Harvard Club of Israel and
the Wharton-Penn Club of Israel, the Leadership Formation Award is
bestowed upon an individual or an organization that are nurturing a
critical mass of young leaders who are likely to affect positively the
well-being of Israel and the Jewish people. |

2009 recipient of the Leadership Formation Award was The Center for Leadership Initiatives The award was bestowed upon Rabbi Yonatan
Gordis, Executive Director of CLI.
|
Founded in 2006, the Center for Leadership Initiatives (CLI) is a
private operating foundation dedicated to catalyzing the power and
potential of individuals to lead organizations and communities to
higher vision, meaning and effectiveness. Through a weave of skills
trainings, coaching, conferences and retreats, as well as online
networks, CLI seeks to cultivate excellence, leadership and vision in
the Jewish non-profit world. |

The award was bestowed upon Prof. Izzy Borovitz,
Chairman of the Wingate Board of Directors and Dr. Rutie Pilz-Burstein,
Acting Director-General and Director of the Ribstein Sport
Medicine & Research
Center
at Wingate.

Established
in 1990, the Center aims at developing to the maximum the potential of
young talented athletes. Selected on merit, these sport-gifted youth
board at Wingate and train in 4 sports – judo, swimming,
volleyball and tennis. Coached by top-level professionals, and under
constant medical supervision, these young athletes train intensively
and represent
Israel at international competitions
where they have obtained promising results.

2006 recipient of the Leadership Formation Award was MASA-Israel
Journey
The
award was bestowed upon Mr. Zeev Bielski, Chairman of the
Executive of Jewish Agency and Mr. Israel Maimon, Government Secretary.

MASA
enables thousands of Jewish young adults to spend a semester
or a year in
Israel in one of over 100 approved
academic programs by providing scholarships, information, and more.
MASA’s aim is to help young Jews from around the world to build a
life-long relationship with Israel and the Jewish
world. MASA is made possible by the support of the Government of
Israel, the Jewish Agency for Israel and its partners,
the United Jewish Communities of North America and Keren Hayesod.

Israel
The
award was bestowed upon Dr.
Shimshon Shoshani, Director General of Taglit-Birthright
Israel

| Taglit-Birthright
Israel provides the gift of first
time, peer group, educational trips to Israel for Jewish young
adults ages 18 to 26. Taglit-Birthright
Israel
’s founders created this program to send thousands of young
Jewish adults from all over the world to
Israel as a gift in order to diminish the growing
division between
Israel and Jewish communities around
the world; to strengthen the sense of solidarity among world Jewry; and
to strengthen participants' personal Jewish identity and connection to
the Jewish people. Nearly 90,000 young adults from 40 countries have
been to Israel
as part of this program.

The 2004 recipient of the Leadership
Formation Award was the Wexner Israel Fellowship Program
The award was bestowed upon Professor
Itamar Rabinovitz and Ms. Bilha Gus from the Wexner Foundation.

| Established
in 1989, The Wexner Israel Fellowship Program represents a unique and
important partnership between The Wexner Foundation and Harvard Kennedy
School. Each year, up to ten outstanding Israeli public
officials are funded to pursue a Master Degree in Public Administration
at the Kennedy
School
and to participate in a set of leadership institutes sponsored by the
Foundation itself. The goal of the program is to provide Israel 's next generation of public
leaders with advanced training in public management and leadership
development, thus enhancing the quality of democracy and the
institutional vitality of Israel 's public sector.

The 2003 recipient of the Leadership
Formation Award was the Israel
Cultural Excellence Foundation – IcExcellence
The award was bestowed upon Ms. Rachel Marani ,
Founder and Director General of IcExcellence.

The Israel Cultural Excellence Foundation (IcExcellence)
was launched in 2001 with a pioneering and innovative approach. The
foundation's goal is to identify the best artistic talents in Israel
, in different fields of art, and support chosen artists en route to
cultural leadership as well as local and international excellence.
IcExcellence aims to strongly encourage a constant striving for
excellence in
Israel , and wishes to emphasis the
importance of culture in everyone's life.
The award ceremony was followed by
performances by: Pianist-Singer Shlomi Shaban, Jazz Saxophonist Eli
Degibri, and the Clipa Theater.

socio-economic gaps crippling Israel ’s
periphery through creating equal educational opportunity.

’s periphery and disadvantaged communities - can make it in
the classroom. Higher education requires considerable talent and money.
Motivated, talented kids without financial resources have almost no
chance of making it. A tragic
